Christian Zacharias ( 1950 ) was born in Jamshedpur, India. Successes in the Van Cliburn, Geneva and Ravel competitions led to him recording with EMI in 1977. He would go on to record works by Haydn, Schubert and the complete sonatas of Mozart. He began conducting in 1992, and recorded most of the Mozart concertos with himself conducting the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.
