Wilhelm Kempff ( 1895 – 1991 ) was born in Brandenburg, Germany. Kempff specialized in the German composers and played piano in the country's style. He is most known for his two cycles of Beethoven Piano Sonatas, and also recorded the Violin Sonatas, Cello Works, Concertos, and Trios. As a composer he transcribed and performed many works by Bach.
