Etsuko Hirose ( 1979 ) was born in Nagoya, Japan. She would go to France to study at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Subsequently she would study with Nicholas Angelich. She won the first prize at the Martha Argerich competition in 1997 which gave her name prominence. She has recorded works by Chopin, Balakirev and Lyapunov.
