Valery Kastelsky (1941 – 2001) was born in Moscow, Russia. He studied at the Gnessins Children Music School and subsequently the Moscow Conservatory under Henrich Neuhaus. He performed well at the Chopin competition in 1960 and would tour the world as a result. He recorded works by Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin and many others under the Melodiya label.
